Some undignified character in Greece thought it was a good idea to "borrow" my image of Joseph Conrad for a book cover without my knowledge and, it goes without saying, paying me one Drachma! But boy! wasn't he generous enough to leave my signature untouched (sarcasm!). By the way, if any here can read Greek and identify the publishing company please let me know, I want to sue their derriere!

Prime Minister Julia Gillard as Mona Lisa, former NSW premier Kristina Keneally as a pensive mermaid and Wikileaks’ Julian Assange with his trousers down – where else but at the Bald Archy awards?
Politicians dominated the humorous art competition, but it was a depiction of Mr Assange taking a leak in an American top hat that took the 2001 prize, which was announced in Sydney on Tuesday.
The painting, entitled `Bad Ass…ange’, by French artist Xavier Ghazi, was “deliciously, irreverently, larrikin-y Australian,” competition founder Peter Batey said.
The Bald Archy exhibition and its $5000 prize is advertised as the only art show one in the world judged by a sulphur-crested cockatoo named Maude.
Maude’s decision was “not influenced by fame or favour”, Mr Batey joked.
The cockatoo wasn’t present at the announcement, but a contented cat called Rocky watched on with interest.
A total of seven Julian Assange caricatures made the finals of the competition, which makes fun of Australian celebrities and politicians.
But Ghazi’s was “the definitive Bald Archy”, Mr Batey said.
“It’s an appropriate subject which people seem to have varied opinions about.”
Assange is portrayed with his usual deadpan expression and his trousers around his ankles as he pees into a top hat with an American flag on it.

Old Illustrations commissioned by the Figaro Magazine in the 80s..Different mediums, Gouache, pencil, acrylics..My favorite is the Chalais one, not because I like the character (far from it) but because it was my first attempt at drawing on textured and tainted paper..I love this effect.

The concern here of course is global warming..A bit depressing and maybe this is why, a first for me , it was not sold ( as far as I now). Few people would buy an artwork which depicts something obviously not so uplifting..I had a suspicion that this could be the case but could not help but make this statement as I thought this was a very pressing issue..

This painting was actually destroyed or more accurately painted over in a moment of "what the heck and why bother?" I dread those moments of utter despair and confession to futility and absurdity and yet can't do anything about them. They're just part of what I do, who I am, how I live and how sometimes I see things and wonder what's the idea? Maybe I should add that for me this work has always been something painful to look at as I always hurry to put aside. Maybe after all it was a good thing that it's gone...But it's not! It's here! Go figure!

A very fast, trans like execution. One of those works where you wish it could always be as straightforward and easy. It took merely an hour to complete with no intention of coming back to correct or improve anything. I always felt that one more brush stroke would be one too many. Considering that my self portrait took almost two months to complete, I'm still wondering what exactly took place here. Oh well!

There's a LOT to say about this painting but I'm not going to do so. I like the idea that any work should be able to speak for itself and words aren't the best way to communicate what's beyond the obvious. It isn't always the case though. Sometimes a bit of context sheds a certain light that is necessary to fully apprehend the work. Not here. Not today! It stirs too much pain!
My hopes are that someone is going to take it away from me which would be the best way to stop me from fiddling endlessly with it. Also, my hopes are that it stays in the family.

The answer is in the picture and no where else really..You can make up your own script with those things..I made up one which isn't what was intended when I started it or even when I finished it..It all came about later when I realised how much it started to "talk" to me.. I had never realised that I would paint white fire for any intent or purpose but it happened...Yeah, I know! Art does that sometimes...
